делить, разделять: to divide smth into several parts — делить что-либо на несколько частей
Глагол to divide обозначает расчленение целого на более мелкие части, указывает на множественность результатов воздействия на объект, претерпевающий изменение:
to divide smth among smb — разделить что-либо между кем-либо (т. г. дать каждому одну из частей целого).
Глагол to separate не предполагает обязательного дробления целого, а подчеркивает отделение одной части от другой или разграничение одного объекта от другого:
We separated good apples from bad ones — Мы отделили (отобрали) хорошие яблоки от плохих.
Great distance separated us — Нас разделяло большое расстояние (Между нами было большое расстояние).
Глагол t о share указывает на множественность субъектов, воздействующих на один и тот же объект, который остается неизменным, самим собой:
to share smb ‘ s views ( smb ‘ s opinions ) — разделять чьи-либо взгляды (мнения);
to share one ‘ s lunch — разделить с кем-либо свой завтрак;
to share one ‘ s experience with smb — поделиться с кем-то своим опытом.
Split divide в чем разница
You can use split and divide in the same context almost all the time.
For example a teacher can say they are going to split the class into two groups.
On the other hand they can also say they are going to divide the class into two groups.

В тексте «At the office», который представлен на сайте ФИПИ, используется старая нумерация A22-A28, как вы можете видеть на изображении. При разборе мы заменили ее на новую A32-A38.
A32. Начнем с задания, в котором проверяется знание разницы между глаголами со схожим значением «делить»: divide, split, share, separate.
He always seemed to know exactly what was going on in the neighbourhood and was only too happy to A32_______ his knowledge with anyone who wanted to pass the time of day.
Давайте посмотрим, что подойдет по смыслу исходя из перевода. Для этого достаточно перевести глагол и стоящее после него дополнение: to … his knowledge – делиться своими знаниями.
Теперь разберем, чем отличаются все предложенные варианты друг от друга и какой же из этих глаголов имеет нужный нам перевод.
divide — делить что-то на две или более группы/части. В случае с этим глаголом речь не идет о делении одного предмета на части. Обычно «divide», то есть отделить друг от друга, можно группы предметов или людей.
split — разделять целое на части (две или более)
share — делиться чем-либо, то есть сделать что-то общим для использования. Этот глагол не связан с делением на части.
separate — отделять одну часть от другой или один предмет от другого. Также данный глагол может использоваться в значении «расставаться».
Ответ: share
A33. При подборе глагола в данной ситуации важно посмотреть на слово после пропуска. Возникает вопрос почему? А это все потому, что у одного из этих глаголов есть предложное управление. Следовательно, это будет либо единственно правильный вариант ответа, ведь у других глаголов предложных управлений нет, либо мы первым исключим его из подходящих вариантов.
Давайте посмотрим на слово после пропуска.

blow around — разбрасывать (листья, бумагу), распространять (об известиях, новостях, слухах)

A36. В этом задании проверяется знание лексической сочетаемости. С существительным no attempt используется глагол make: make no attempt – не попытаться.

А37. Чтобы определить, какой глагол подойдет, надо перевести предложение с пропуском, подставив все предложенные глаголы.

admit — признавать
agree — соглашаться
express — выражать

А38. Здесь проверяется знание идиомы make one’s way to – направляться в. Ее стоит выучить.

The difference between Divide and Split
When used as nouns, divide means a thing that divides, whereas split means a crack or longitudinal fissure.
When used as verbs, divide means to split or separate (something) into two or more parts, whereas split means of something solid, to divide fully or partly along a more or less straight line.
Split is also adjective with the meaning: divided.

To split or separate (something) into two or more parts.
Examples:

To share (something) by dividing it.
